Great Album Apr 01, 2010 While one could make an argument that this album was overproduced and it lacks the 'Regina' touch to it, I would still disagree. This was first Regina Spektor album I purchased, then I purchased Soviet Kitsch, 11:11, Begin to Hope, and finally Songs. Being able to listen to Regina's work from her beginnings in 11:11 until this point is a great experience. Through the series of about nine years you can feel the growth of her music and the growth of herself. The most negative critiques of this album have been from people who either were in love with Regina from 11:11 or from people who caught onto her when Begin to Hope became mainstream and popular. Her progression through the years has been dynamic and inspiring. She always sings with deep, deep lyrics and taps into real emotions of the listener. How she accomplishes this changes from album to album - which in my mind is beautiful. Growing and changing is a part of life, and her music reflects this - but I still hear the foundation, the rock on which she stands. Her piano playing, captivating lyrics, and unique voice are just as present in this album as they were in her other albums. This album is interesting because she goes into new territory with songs like 'Machine' and I have to applaud her work. I suppose what I appreciate about this album is the depth of emotion and her mastery over metaphor. This album also does a great job of putting you into the story of the song, taking you out, confusing you, and finally letting you decide what happened. All in all this is a wonderful album and I would recommend it to anyone.

sounds too similar Feb 28, 2010 this one sounded too much like the last album like a cheap immitation of her own work. little dissapointing but still regina.

Glad Vinyls Are Back! Feb 15, 2010 For anyone planning to buy this new album, I would definitely recomment getting this version because it includes a cd with all the tracks from the regular album version, and of course it's aways nice to listen to these wonderful songs on your turntable. :) Quality is pristine and it sounds exactly like the regular cd.
Includes:
Vinyl Record (double-sided)
Lyrics
Original CD with 13 tracks

Breath of Fresh Air Feb 10, 2010 I'll admit that for a while I wasn't much of a fan...the way she executed her vocals along with the rhythm of her piano work...it seemed awkward to a first time listener. Maybe that's what people loved about her, but with this album, her unique vocals and piano rhythm make more sense, they've found their place in between each note so perfectly...it's better structured than her previous work, but never stable...never boring. As a result, I'm now an official Regina Spektor fan and happy about it. For preview downloads try: "Eet", it is beautiful (maybe too stable for some, but still good) and "Machine", it has such an innovative execution that I don't see how anyone couldn't like it, lyrics are amazing too. I can't wait to see what she comes up with next!

6 stars!! Regina's voice oozes richness and vibrance in every song!! Feb 08, 2010 Simply divine!! Give the entirety a go one time through before deciding favorites. You'll be surprised what songs will stay with you the longest. I also loved this album because she stays true to herself while balancing creativity of song, diversity in melodies, and continuity in vocal experimentation. Just lovely!!
