2008 debut album from the singer/songwriter. Citing her influences as diverse as Etta James, Jill Scott, Bjork, Dusty Springfield, Billy Bragg, Billie Holiday, Jeff Buckley, The Cure and Peggy Lee, Adele is a truly unique new artist. With her mix up of R&B and Soul served up with a healthy dash of feisty London attitude, she spins beautiful dark stories of loves won and lost and sometimes just daydreamed about. 12 tracks. XL.

5sorry i am late...  Aug 10, 2010
This girl is amazing. I have stumbled across Adele and I have no idea as to HOW I missed this from 2008. really. I have been listening to 19 for days now and I love it. I can not wait to see you next time round when you are in the US. :)

5WoW  Aug 03, 2010
The Amy Winehouse comparisons are very misleading. Adele has her own style that's completely different from Winehouse's (I love Winehouse also). The beats, vocals, and lyrics on EVERY track are perfect on this album. It is indeed a must have in your music collection!

5Never judge a book ...  Jul 21, 2010
At first glance, she's a very unassuming woman. And if you closed your eyes when she opened her mouth to sing, you still wouldn't believe your own ears. This young woman is AMAZING! Her sound is so pure and colorful. When she sings, it's as if she's investigating the sounds that flow from her vocal cords to get the full range of her instrument - a true artist! This Caucasian woman from the UK is the perfect example of not judging a book by its cover. I'm convinced now that everyone has "SOUL." You just have to find it. And boy, did she find it!!! Sister-girl found it, tamed it, and tattooed her name on its ass! There are very few artists whose albums I purchase and I like every song. ADELE is definitely one of them! Should you buy this album? . . . YES!

5Take the journey  Jul 06, 2010
Hi,
I discovered Adele by listening to my local public radio online, KCRW, which streams Eclectic 24, a remarkable radio station giving the public a rare opportunity to hear artists & music we may never be exposed to.

I am blown away with Adele, her emotion, vocal control, flawless enunciation, and raw feelings which come across strongly on most of this CD.

I haven't researched her much yet, but have to believe she does at least some of her own writing & composing.
Several songs have only one or two instruments, but is works so well, her voice is so powerful, but almost delicate at the same time.

She carries the melody effortlessly, with sensitivity & character, I feel she's lived what she sings about.

The words strike that rare balance between a powerful, expressive message, with a straight forward delivery, true poetry.

From the soft & tender Melt My Heart to Stone, to the kickass beat of Right as Rain, (I can't sit still during this tune), to the amazing Daydreamer, which pulls hard at my heart.

Adele has definitely become one of my all time favorite artists.

2It's Winehouse Lite  Jul 04, 2010
Adele is ok but this album quickly becomes too derivative of Amy Winehouse without the strong songs and a less emotive voice and thus background music. Both Estelle and Duffy are stronger UK imports and were both robbed the year Adele won Best New Artist Grammy over them! Still it is a plus to have talent that can actually sing rather than the manufactured crap like Ke$ha that the US is cookie cutting out!
